                        Southwest Colorado Fire Update

                             August 4, 2008, 9 AM

 

   Full containment of the 227-acre Maverick Fire was achieved at 6:00 PM

   Sunday.  One 20-person crew and 3 engines will continue with mop-up

   today and then patrol the fire for the next couple of days. Fire

   managers expect to call the fire controlled tonight.  The Type 3 Team

   will return responsibility for managing the fire back to the Ute

   Mountain Ute Agency Tuesday morning.  The Maverick fire is located just

   north of the New Mexico/Colorado border, about 9 miles southwest of Red

   Mesa.

 

   The 202-acre Little Cahone fire should also be controlled this evening.

   About 35 firefighters are continuing with mop-up today.  The fire will

   be patrolled by a two engines for the next couple days.  The Little

   Cahone fire is located within the Canyon of the Ancients National

   Monument, approximately 3 miles west of Cahone and 10 miles south of

   Dove Creek.

 

   The Pole Canyon fire has grown to 6-7 acres but remains a low intensity

   surface fire cleaning up light fuels on the ground. The fire is burning

   on National Forest lands in the Glade, approximately 10 miles northeast

   of Dove Creek.
