La Plata Fire Preparedness Initiative - Frequently Asked Questions
Why do surveyors need to come onto my property?
While our intent is to intrude as little as possible, it is necessary to see vegetation and potential fire hazards around the home, such as unskirted decks, wood piles, propane tanks, etc. An analysis is done on the vegetation in Zone 1 (within 30' of your home) and vegetation in Zone 2 (between 30' and 150' of your home). Surveyors will first attempt to make contact with you by knocking on your door to let you know they will be doing the survey. If you are not at home, they will proceed with the survey with as little intrusion as possible. When the survey is done a card will be left in your door indicating that the surveyors have been there.
Will surveyors advise me regarding steps I can take to make my home safer?
The surveyors will not have time to give you any detailed advise about your home. Once the survey is completed, you can request to see the survey by clicking here. Also, you can call the Colorado State Forest Service or your Fire Protection district regarding more detailed advise.
