April 17 Update
What worked, what didn’t work. . .The event was cancelled due to low RSVP’s and speaker cancellation. The event has been rescheduled for 2 evenings:

a) May 18 6:30 to 8pm on legal and insurance issues for HOA’s in enforcing defensible space covenants. There will be a panel discussion and a presentation by a local attorney (Carolyn will contact someone in the SW Bar Association and advertise for attorney speakers over their e-mail tree). Dan Ochocki will facilitate the panel discussion.

b) May 25 6:30 to 8pm on Developing an Evacuation Plan for Subdivisions; Dealing with Slash as a Neighborhood; and a “What Works” discussion—successes and challenges of subdivisions and how to address the challenges. The meetings will be held at the LPEA meeting room, 45 Stewart St. in Bodo Park. Snacks and drinks provided.

The fire council would like to extend personal invitations to homeowners in “high risk” subdivisions. The proper wording must be used when making the phone calls so as not to scare people. Nicole, Carolyn and Ben (as well as the other four callers) will help place phone calls. Ron will forward call lists and protocol suggestions to new callers.

The council decided that it would be up to the presenters if they felt comfortable being videotaped. Kristie will poll them and let Joy know so she can reserve the video camera from DCAT.

Fire Prevention Insert in the Herald coming out this Sunday will advertise the event and psa’s will be sent to all local radios and newspapers. The four mitigation companies that were planning on attending the April 17th meeting will be invited to set out information at both meetings. At the meetings, the council will make sure to provide the list of ALL companies for people.
