FireWise Council Meeting Notes
March 2005

In Attendance: Mike Kane Jr., Laurie Robison, Ron Tyner, Ben Cordova, Dave Abercrombie, Dan Ochocki, Harry Bruell, Kristie Borchers, Nicole Smith, Dave Cluff, Joy Mathis, Byard Peake

Ambassador Program: Byard Peake reported that Falls Creek would like to have the Council come out and approve/inspect Falls Creek Ranch for Level 2 duties for the Ambassador program and make a presentation and recognize the work the ranch has done at their May 14th meeting. Council will see if the Herald will cover it. Dan O suggested we should create a subcommittee to do inspections—he will be the point person for inspections. We will have a meeting for anyone interested in discussing the recognition process on April 14th at 10am at the CSFS office. Extensive discussion centered on the fact that there are two distinct recognition pieces – one is for outstanding volunteer efforts, an Ambassador who has completed all the tasks for a Level II volunteer. The second is a landscape-recognition of on-the-ground steps taken to reduce wildfire risk in a subdivision. A previous subcommittee has met on the subdivision recognition issue and decided the national guidelines were too loose, and to focus on the Colorado State guidelines (had more strict achievements to meet). We contacted the State for materials to distribute promoting that program, and its defunct. Future action was tabled. Falls Creek wanting recognition for Level II Ambassador program opens it back up, as there is some confusion whether this is the Council-sponsored recognition program. A special meeting has been called for April 14th, 10 a.m. at the Colorado State Forest Service Office up on Fort Lewis College’s campus (call 970-247-5250 for directions).
Actions:
1) Please bring any thoughts to this meeting, we will want to come to a clear
